World 110m hurdles champion Grant Holloway is poised to maintain his unbeaten streak on the speedy track of Stade Couvert in Liévin.
Kicking off his indoor season with vigor in Staten Island, Holloway claimed victory in his first 60m hurdles event of the year, clocking a world-leading time of 7.37 seconds.
In the previous year, Holloway dominated all nine of his 60m hurdles races, including the Liévin final where he recorded a time of 7.32. A few days later, at the World Indoor Tour gold meeting in Madrid, Holloway shattered Colin Jackson’s world indoor record from 1994, posting a swift 7.29.
During the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Holloway ran the second-fastest time in the 110m hurdles outdoors, registering 12.81 in the semifinal and 12.96 in the final. His only defeat came in the Olympic final, where he finished runner-up to Hansle Parchment with a time of 13.09.
The competition will also feature Jarret Eaton, the world indoor silver medalist who recorded 7.51 in Val de Reuil last Monday, 2018 European outdoor champion Pascal Martinot Lagarde, who triumphed in Karlsruhe in 7.54, Wilhem Belocian, the 2021 Torun European Indoor champion with a time of 7.42, and Daniel Roberts, the 2019 US outdoor champion.
Other notable competitors include the reigning world indoor champion, Andy Pozzi from Great Britain, and Kevin Mayer from France, the decathlon world record holder who secured the European Indoor gold medal in the heptathlon in Belgrade 2017, setting a new European record of 6479 points.
