William Amponsah Targets Medal in Men’s 5000m at Commonwealth Games

William Amponsah Targets Medal in Men’s 5000m at Commonwealth Games – Ghana’s favourite middle and long-distance athlete, William Amponsah is set to open his 2022 Commonwealth Games campaign in Birmingham.

William will compete in the men’s 5000 metres which is a straight final event in the Alexander Stadium. He is the current record holder of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games. He broke the previous records in 5000m and 10000m at the 2022 GUSA Games in Accra.

He has a personal best in 5000m – 14:54.27 and 10000m -29:53.08

He is a student of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). He also won the CAA Region II Half Marathon in Kaduna, Nigeria. He is amongst the best distance runners in Africa currently.

He says he is never afraid of the East Africans as he has prepared well for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Amponsah is representing Ghana as the West African Half Marathon champion. He shares some insights about his demanding event and himself. He discovered his running talent when he was in Junior High School and he has since competed in many events. He believes in himself and his target is the medal zone.

“I am never afraid of the East Africans”, William disclosed.
