University of Ghana (UG) Athletics Team have declared that they want to win the men’s division trophy to make their school proud. The UG athletes are gearing up for a tough battle at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Cross Country Championship 2022, which will be held for the first time.
The GAF x-country is expected to be the largest cross-country race ever staged in Ghana, West Africa. University of Ghana is expected to produce 11 athletes to compete for the trophy.
In an exclusive interview the team revealed to Athleticshour the build up towards the event. According to them the men’s team trophy is a must win for them.
“Our training is going on very well and our preparation towards this competition is very high because we want to win the trophy home and also to make the university proud”, said Aziz.
He also disclosed to us how they team mates are happy upon hearing the news that school sports is back again.
The University of Ghana squad is the most recent tertiary institution to confirm its participation in the tournament.

Aziz Mohammed, an ECOWAS Games medalist, will compete alongside Aglo Kobi, the amazing and unpredictable Sadiq Aloo, and the upcoming great middle distance athlete Ishmael Offeh Acheampong amongst other athletes.
University of Ghana’s Aziz and Ishmael competed in the just concluded All African University Games in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2021, the duo was listed as one of Africa’s top 20 athletes.
