We Thought The Tamale Marathon Won’t Come On, We Were Surprised To Hear That Athletes Have Traveled To Tamale – GAA Technical Committee

The Technical Committee of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) is not happy about the postponement of the maiden edition of the Tamale Marathon. We had lengthy conversations with the race organisers but they didn’t follow our rules as a federation. We thought the Tamale Marathon won’t come on, we were surprised to hear that athletes have traveled to Tamale – GAA Technical Committee.

The maiden edition of the Tamale Marathon was to be held today in Tamale, Northern Region.

The Technical Committee issued a prerelease about a year ago that emphatically states that every competition must be certified by the association before being given the green light.

“We thought the Tamale Marathon won’t come on because after we agreed to go and recheck the route and to be sanctioned by our Technical staff, the race organisers never picked our calls again. We even booked a flight ticket and we have to go back and collect our cash again. This is not about the CEO, Mr. Bawa Fuseini’s directive or decision, the Technical team must give the green light before any race can be organised in Ghana. We don’t want what happened in Koforidua Marathon to repeat itself again. This is not intentional we did that to protect the coaches and the athletes. Moreover, we want the right thing to be done”, said the Local Organising Committee and Technical Member of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Mr. Appiah Kubi Emmanuel.
