(WATCH VIDEO) OLYMPIAN BENJAMIN AZAMATI WINS EMY AFRICA SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
Ghanaian Olympian Benjamin Azamati wins the EMY Africa Sportsman of the year award yesterday. The EMY Africa award was held on 23 October 2021 at Accra in the Greater Accra Region. The award winner, Benjamin Kweku Azamati, hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern part of Ghana. He is now a student at West Texas A&M University, who also holds Ghana’s National 100 metres record currently of time 9:97 seconds. He qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Olym Azamati also made a greater impact to secure another record in the men’s 4 × 100 metres of which they made another national record during the Olympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan. Olym Azamati competed in the category with the likes of prominent athletes in the game of sports; these competitors were, Jonathan Mensa, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Victor Kofi Ampofo. Azamati has also earned USTFCCCA Regional Award. He has had a tremendous year and we wait to see more in coming years. He thanked everyone who voted for him, the award organisers, all the nominees in the sportsmanship category, and said “we won this together, your support means so much, I’m determined to outdo myself in the coming years”.
The award was being received by his able former coach on behalf of him, Coach Elorm Amenakpor made a brief statement last year by saying “awards can be won through determination and perseverance, he also added to it that, we have a lot of athletes out there simply because much attention has not been given to track and field, if we want to talk about medals, then I think, we need to give a lot of attention to track and field when you go to Ashanti region, Central and Greater Accra region, these are the heart of athletics thank you”.
