The delay in shifting the abattoir to the ultra-modern facility at Yorogo, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality, has been attributed to the lack of engineers to retrain and oversee the use of the facility’s machinery, according to Rex Asanga, the MCE for Bolgatanga. Unavailability of engineers have delayed the relocation of the abattoire – Mr Rex Asanga discloses.
Mr. Asanga told A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East that the Assembly wishes to avoid a situation where the facility is put to use without certain engineers performing the appropriate technical supervisory functions.
The abattoir would be transferred immediately if the engineers came and trained the facility’s users on how to utilize and maintain it, according to the MCE. He stated that the butchers had totally consented to relocate the abattoir.
After missing the original deadline of December 15, 2021, butchers negotiated an agreement to transfer to the Yorogo facility by January 1, 2022. Meanwhile, Timothy Yinbil, Secretary of the Bolgatanga Butchers Association, refuted claims in the media that the butchers had broken their agreement with the Assembly.
