Mr Emmanuel Antwi who has found a passion for sports is the man behind the maiden edition of the Ashiyie Half Marathon. Mr Antwi is from the Ashanti Region but was born, bred and grew at North Kaneshi, Accra. The Race Director’s Perception About Event Organisation.

He disclosed that his passion and enthusiasm for sports has helped him to always organise something that has to do with sports.

Event organisation has its own good and bad sides and it doesn’t scare me from doing what I supposed to do as a sports addict. There are a lot of challenges I do face each time as Race Director. The most agitating part of it is getting people to come on board to participate in the event, West Africa precisely Ghanaian society does not see and know the benefits of exercising the body regularly. On the other side too is the financial and logistics aspects of the whole event. Not too good things are slow because am the only person organising the whole event.

The motive behind this event is to get publicity and build the careers of the athletes. Above all, you will also meet others make new friends and have fun.

The Ashiyie Half Marathon will be an annual event that will take place each year. Most of the sponsors are not willing to support although we have a few on board now and we need more of such to make this event very successful.

The maiden edition of the Ashiyie 21km, 15k, 5k and 3k is scheduled on the 1st of May 2021, Ashiyie – Adenta. The day is a public holiday in Ghana and we are expecting a lot of the athletes and all sports lovers to come and run with us. Who is Mr Emmanuel Antwi?

Mr Emmanuel Antwi, 47 years old I come from Ashanti but was born and bred in North Kaneshie, Accra. I attended Emit Electric Institute completed in the year 1995. I joined the military in the year 1996 resigned and travelled to the United States of America (USA). I came back to Ghana in 2016 and established my small business, I am into fitness. I am the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Emmagee Fitness Centre, Adenta. I had participated in a lot of marathons: Heartford Marathon in the United States of America (USA) in 2014,  Middle Town Marathon in the United States of America (USA), Boston Marathon, Boston, United States of America (USA), Milo Marathon, Dansoman, Ghana and I won my self medals. Running a marathon was a very great experience and I really enjoyed the race from start to finish.
