Robert Ebenezer Kotei was an outstanding track and field athlete for Ghana. He was part of the Ghana National Track and Field Athletes.

As an athlete, Robert Ebenezer Kotei became the first Ghanaian athlete to win a medal at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff, Wales.

He jumped 6 feet 7 inches (2.01m) in the men’s high jump. He won bronze medal in that event.

Robert Ebenezer Kotei also set a new record in the Academy Athletics Championships in the long jump and it still stands up to date. During the 1960 Academy Athletics Championships, Robert Ebenezer Kotei won the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.06m. Robert Ebenezer Kotei record in the Ghana High Jump stood for over 36 years before it was broken. He set the Ghana High Jump record in London, United Kingdom. The record was later broken in the year 1996.

Robert Ebenezer Kotei was later appointed as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
