We were determined to lift the trophy in 2020 after the devastating disappointment of placing 2nd to one Barikisu who was to run in the seniors. Unfortunately, Covid-19 abruptly ended the competition after she won in Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the Central Region Coach Benito disclosed. The Best U18 Female Sprinter in Africa.
During the covid-19 period we couldn’t have any serious training because of the lockdown and spread of the pandemic. All hopes to compete again were fading off when Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) and GNPC Ghana Fastest Human came up with their programs for the 2021 season. We quickly reorganised ourselves to train and compete. All the athletes and coaches were waiting for this moment because there was no single event for their athletes to compete in for almost a year this was disclosed by her personal trainer, Coach Benito.
As the saying goes independence was not achieved on silver platter but it was fought for. Mr. Bernard Addo Mensah popularly known as Coach Benito disclosed that, the road to this win hasn’t been easy but with the wonderful support from Mr. Michael Mensah, the Headmaster of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) and the Sports Committee. Professor Domfeh of University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been very supportive of our course. He accommodates and sees to our comfort anytime we are in Cape Coast. Our families have been our backbone and pivotal to our success in terms of motivation. Many other coaches have contributed in various ways to get this win. Benedicta has set a new record as the only athlete to win all the preliminary rounds and win the finals as well.
