Sekyere Richard Writes Accra 2023

To Whom It May Concern

This is the time the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Athletics, the Athletics Clubs, Cooperate Institutions and Individuals must work together like never before prior to the 2023 Africa Games. From Africa Games, the athletes have another great chance to go to Olympic Games. The next Olympic Games will be held in France “Paris 2024” which means we have 3 years ahead for preparations. Team Ghana performed tremendously well during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. We are witnessed and saw their performances and the potentials they exhibited at the biggest sporting event in the world. Although it was the first time for 99% of the athletes who represented the nation. There will be a lot of disciplines but our focus is on Athletics. Sekyere Richard Writes Accra 2023.

Sometimes it seems easy, but looking at it is also different from approaching it. As the saying goes “the sooner the better”. “two heads are better than one” andhalf a loaf of bread is better than noneand united we stand, divided we fall apart”.

We all have different meanings for these proverbs and we use them on different occasions and places. This time we are going to apply these proverbs or attach them to Athletics and precisely Africa Games 2023 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Ghana was awarded the right to host the 13th edition of all Africa Games 2023. The Africa Games is the biggest sporting event in Africa. There are about 25 disciplines that will take place during the games at different locations coming 2023. Ghana is doing a great job in terms of facilities and infrastructure for the mega event.

We all work to save for our future and any unforeseen or unplanned circumstances. Although no one prays for problems to come it’s natural and can happen at any time. When there are any issues we can quickly use the saved cash to solve them immediately without any tension.

Ghana is working now and we not saving anything for our future. Your savings don’t guarantee that you need to use your saving. No, sometimes you might not enjoy any of your life savings but others.

We have started building ultra-modern facilities and doing numerous renovations for the upcoming games. Am happy we have started all these projects very early. This confirms one of my proverbs “sooner the better”.

The Ghana government saw that he can’t organise these competitions on his own knowledge and imagination, he set up a committee called the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2023 Africa Games. The committee will see to it that everything is moving on smoothly and they will report the ongoing activities and progress of the games to the government. The committee will advise the government on the dos and dons of games because they have vase knowledge in that field. The government didn’t rely on his own knowledge but sought advice from experts and they will all work hand in hand and share ideas. This confirms one of my wise saying sayings “two heads are better than one”.

The initial arrangements were to build an Olympic standard sports stadium at Borteyman, Accra. The multi-purpose sports stadium will have a 50,000 capacity. Borteyman’s site was designed to have a sports university as well but the plans weren’t executed due to coronavirus pandemic (covid-19). The covid-19 has caused a lot of damages and killed thousands of innocent people around the world. In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, everything came to halt. So the project was halted at Borteyman and just recently the president cut sod for the construction of some of the infrastructures and facilities there. The Local Organising Committee has chosen the University of Ghana Sports Stadium to be renovated to host some of the events, especially the track and field events. The University of Ghana Sports Stadium has a capacity of 20,000 -25,000 as compared to the Olympic standard sports stadium at Borteyman with a capacity of 50,000. This analogy clearly confirms my third proverb “half a loaf of bread is better than none”.

Let me state and state it emphatically, if the Ghana government doesn’t include the Ghana Athletics Club (Coaches, Former Athletes, Athletes) for them to work together as a team, there will be a very big question mark on the track and field events. If Ghana Athletes are performing well at the international level most of the credit goes to Ghana Athletics. The Ghana government and the Ghana Athletics must sit down and develop a strategy to be able to start camping the potential athletes for the games. The game is coming home and we must do our possible best and take advantage of it to boost our sports especially athletics.

One of the fastest-growing sporting activities in the world currently is athletics. We need to start developing our athletes for the upcoming games. The normalcy also states “when the competition is getting nearer, then we start to look for our athletes. These athletes are not the local athletes but the foreign-based athletes. They will come and compete and return back abroad again”. We hope and believe that this time we will unearth, nurture and develop most of our local athletes for the 13th Africa Games 2023. All these will happen when we are united and work hand in hand for the subsequent years ahead. These homegrown-based athletes will become strong and give hope to the upcoming athletes. We need to work together during this time like never before. This statement explains clearly the last proverb I said “united we stand, divided we fall apart”.

Let’s not forget most of the athletes who represented Ghana at the just ended Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were students. Meanwhile, in Ghana, we have halted all school sporting activities but thank God they were all schooling outside the country. By simple analysis, if those athletes were herein Ghana, they wouldn’t have gotten the qualifying time to represent the nation. Sekyere Richard Writes Accra 2023. Ghanaians athletes are among the best in Africa currently in all events and the world at large.
