Ronald Kwemoi Wins Castellon 10km In Spain

Ronald Kwemoi of Kenya won the Castellon 10km in a course record time of 27:16, ahead of his brother Samwel Chebolei (27:18), and Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele (27:20).

Due to the lack of pacemakers, the leading trio stayed together the whole race. Chebolei, fresh off victories in the Kenyan Cross Country Championships and the Cross Country Tour Gold meeting in Eldoret, took over the most of the pacing duties, with steeplechaser Takele and Kwemoi trailing behind.

Kwemoi, who holds the world U20 1500m record, waited until the final 400 meters to unleash a stunning closing kick, winning in 27:16 in his debut road race. Chebolei had to settle for second place in 27:18, while Takele, who was competing for the first time, finished third in 27:20. Ronald Kwemoi wins Castellon 10km in Spain on Sunday, 27th February 2022.

“I enjoyed the race, the circuit is very fast,” said Kwemoi, a multiple world and Olympic finalist over 1500m, who intends to stick to his specialist distance this year. “I decided to attack only in the closing stages as I’m a 1500m runner and knew I would be able to win that way.”
