The National Sports Authority (NSA) Ashanti Region has successfully organised its annual inter-district cross country championship on Saturday, 22nd January 2022.

The event took place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the capital of Ashanti Region, Greater Kumasi.

There were 19 registered female athletes and 35 registered male athletes who took part in the historic justify your inclusion in the cross country. A total of 54 athletes started the race in both categories. The atmosphere was great and the weather was a little bit hazy.

The females started around 7:00 am in the morning. Sherifa Moro defended her title again and finished in 35:06.55 seconds while Naomi Addo placed second in 36:00.02 seconds and Hannah Adompaka also finished third in 37:37.12 seconds. All three winners are current students of the great T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School.

In the male category was a very fierce battle between four athletes. The start of the men’s race was exactly before the females had taken off. Malam Yamputi won the race in 30:57.97 seconds while Noah Wumboridie placed second in 31:11.25 both from AMUSTED and Bernard Tampuri of Opoku Ware Senior High School finished third in 31:24.25 seconds.

The surprise was the comeback of the former Ghana University Sports Association Games 5000 metres and 10,000 metres record holder Malik Yakubu who finished 12th overall. Malik has been off for a while due to injuries and the question most are asking is, is the Millennium Marathon Champion back again?
