Report: Valencia Half Marathon
Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey has set a new world record at the Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso EDP in 1:02:52 seconds. It was her debut in the Half Marathon at the World Athletics Elite Label road race on Sunday 24 October 2021 in Valencia, Spain. Gidey has already broken the world 5000m last year in Spain. Gidey’s pace dropped very slightly during the last quarter of the race but still was in the world record pace and ensured she didn’t miss it.
“I knew I could run this kind of time as my training sessions in the altitude of Addis Ababa have gone very well. In the future, I’m thinking of competing at the marathon distance but I’m not sure that will come before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games or later” said Gidey, the world silver medallist and the Olympic bronze medallist.
