Report: Good Day Cross Country Championship
The maiden edition of the Good Day Cross Country Championship was held on Saturday, 20th November 2021 at Berekuso in the Eastern Region. The race started from Berekuso and ended at Peduase Lodge. The route was rough, straight, and very hilly. The lowest altitude from the start was 200m above sea level and the highest altitude was 360m, just a few kilometers to the finish line. Both males and females started the race together at exactly 8:04 am. Every participant that started the race was able to cross the finish line. Most of them were competing for fun, fitness, and others for the main trophy. Athletes from the Ghana Armed Forces Athletics Team, O. J. Athletics Club, and Arrows Athletics Club all from Ashanti Region, High Morale Athletics Club from the Upper East Region, One Mission Athletics from the Greater Accra Region, all from the Junior High School, Senior High Schools and the various universities, companies, and individuals across the country.

Winners of the competition were awarded medals, various prizes from the sponsors in both categories. Every participant who was able to finish the 12km race received a certificate and a lot of assorted energy drinks from sponsors.
The oldest participant was a 54-year-old man, who introduced himself as the head coach of the Ghana National Fire Service Athletics Team. He was also recognised as the oldest finisher at the event and was awarded. The youngest participant was also a 13-year-old boy and he was awarded for being the youngest finisher. Both received special awards from the organisers.

The General Manager of Ocean Merchant Limited, producers of Good Day Energy Drink, Mr. Alexander Botchway, indicated after the event that his company, in collaboration with the Ghana Athletics Association, came up with the decision to organise the race, with a major goal of
discovering hidden talents for the nation -an objective that has always been a priority of the Ghana Athletics Association.
Mr. Alexander Botchway also disclosed that the second edition of the Good Day Cross Country Championship would be held in March 2022.
Some of were dignitaries present were the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Mr. Bawa Fuseini, Professor Baba Apidugu, and some notable personalities from the top media houses in the country, whose presence added more spice to the event.

In the men’s category, The Ghana Armed Forces Team emerged 1st, Daakye Team, 2nd and High Moral Team, 3rd. In the women’s category, Asante Team emerged 1st, Ghana Armed Forces Team, 2nd and Upper West Team, 3rd.
