Gudaf Tsegay will run in the mile at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas de Calais in Liévin on the track where she set the world indoor 1500m record with 3:53.09.
Tsegay went on to establish world-leading PBs in the 800m (1:57.52) and the 3000m (8:22.65) in the following weeks in Metz and Madrid, respectively. She ran a personal best of 3:54.01 in the 1500m in Chorzow, a world-leading time of 14:13.32 in the 5000m at the Olympic Trials in Hengelo, and a personal best of 29:39.42 in the 10000m in Maia. In 14:38.87, she took bronze in the 5000 meters at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Tsegay will attack the world indoor mile record held by her compatriot Genzebe Dibaba, who clocked 4:13.31 in 2016.
Tsegay hasn’t ran an indoor mile since setting her personal best of 4:24.98 in Stockholm in 2016. At the 2018 Anniversary Games in London, she set an outdoor PB of 4:16.14 in the mile.
Axumawit Embaye, who ran a world-leading time of 4:02.12 in the 1500m in Karlsruhe last January, Uganda’s Winnie Nanyondo, who finished fourth in the 800m at the World Championships in Doha 2019, and Ethiopia’s Tigist Ketema, who finished third in the 800m at the World Under 20 Championships in Bydgoszcz 2016, will be up against the Ethiopian star.
