Endurance running consultant Sekyere Richard shares his expert advice on how runners should spend the last 24 hours before race day.

The 2022 National Cross Country Championship is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 26th February at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

The event will comprise some of the top-level athletes in Ghana, West Africa.

But how should runners get themselves ready the day before a big race?

Are you nervous?

Endurance running consultant Sekyere Richard says athletes should not be in a sitting position for too long as this may stiffen their muscles.

He suggests these six things for the last 24 hours before race day:

  1. Avoid long runs
  2. Avoid sitting for long periods of time
  3. Keep mobile (move freely)
  4. Do a few light exercises and stretches
  5. Relax and calm down your nerves
  6. Pasta party
  7. Don’t be nervous
  8. Sleep well
  9. Avoid any type of sports drink that you haven’t used before.
  10. Get some Massage
  11. Do some dynamic and static stretches
