The second edition of the 2021 Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon (STM) has officially been cancelled a statement from the race organisers has disclosed. Official: Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon has been cancelled for the first time.

The organisers said that the reasons for the postponement were far beyond their reach and nothing can be done about it, but had no other option just to set a new date for the mega event. Arguably the STM event is described as one the best road races in West Africa after the successes it chalked in its maiden edition.

After the postponement, the race organisers had encountered with all the stakeholders which include but are not limited to coaches, managers, athletes, and the sponsors/partners of the event and all settled on a suitable date which was being shifted to Monday, 3rd January 2022.

Just yesterday, on New Year Eve’s day, the organsiers announced that per their briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country so far, and according to the Ghana Health Service the cases are rising up at a much faster rate during the Christmas celebrations. There is the need to safeguard the life of the athletes first because it’s better to call off the race this year and follow situations on the COVID-19.

Race organisers have already started the preparations towards a successful event for the 2022 Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon. They also apologised for any inconveniences caused to all the stakeholders and promised to deliver a world-class event in the subsequent organisation of the race.
