The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif earlier on Monday, January 17, 2022 gave the opening address before the Hockey African Cup of Nation for both men and women kicked off at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra. In his opening address, Hon. Mustapha thanked all the dignitaries and protocols that were present at the opening ceremony.
According to the sector minister, the last time Ghana hosted this Hockey tournament was in 2009 and so, the country will be proud to be hosting it again this time, under the leadership of His Excellency (HE) Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo.
He encouraged the other federations to emulate the Hockey federation by hosting African games because such competitions form part of the preparations ahead of the 13th African games to be held in Ghana in 2023; a competition the sports minister is very positive about Ghana winning medals.
He further indicated that, the President Akufo Addo led government sees sports as a major tool for national development hence, there’s the need to support it in every way that they can.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Authority declared the tournament officially opened and wished all teams the best of luck.
Present at the ceremony was the Director General of the National Sports Authority Prof. Peter Twumasi.
It must be noted that, this is the 11th edition for the men’s category and the 8th edition for the women’s category.
