NSA Visits Venue For National Cross Country Championship
On Thursday, 10th February 2022, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi paid a working visit to Akim Oda, the venue for this year’s National Cross Country championship
. He had a fruitful meeting with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Adu and staff of the Coordinating Council.
In her opening address, Hon. Victoria Adu said it was an honour for the Municipality to host this prestigious national sporting event.
She went on to assure the Director-General of her outfit’s readiness to ensure that the event is organized successfully.
In his address, Prof. Peter Twumasi highlighted the criteria for bidding of the event, which Akim Oda came tops. He further touched on the past successive events, which began in 2019 at Mporhor, in the then western region of Ghana.
He went on to say that this year’s competition is special because the Ghana Athletics Association and the Local Organizing Committee of the 2023 African Games are both participating. The event has also gotten a big boost thanks to the support and patronage of the Republic’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia. Prof. Twumasi concluded by urging everyone to come out in support of the event in order for it to be a huge success.
The Deputy Director General (technical) updated the audience on the technical components of the event, and other sub-committee leaders presented their reports as well.
The delegation then paid a courtesy call on Nana Akua Asantewaa III, the Queen mother of the Kotoku Traditional Area, to officially tell her of the National Cross Country 2002 event, which is planned to take place in Her Royal Majesty’s domain. She conveyed her delight at hearing the information and wished the occasion well. She also assured the delegation that she, as a sportswoman, would participate in the competition. She also took use of the opportunity to encourage everyone to take an active interest in sports.
Mr. Kwame Baa Mensah, the head of monitoring and evaluation, was present during the meeting, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, GAA Secretary-General, Miss Afia Serebour, secretary to the National planning committee, and Mr. Charles Amofah, Head of Public Relations.
