Nigeria to host Africa Athletics Championships
Nigeria has been awarded to host the CAA Africa Athletics Championships. This is the 21st edition of the championship for the CAA African Athletics.
The championship was originally scheduled to take place in Algiers, Algeria in 2020. But championship was later postponed until 2021 due to the surge in the covid-19 pandemic in Africa.

The championship was to take place at the Oran Olympic Complex. The Oran Olympic Complex has a capacity to accommodate 40,000 spectators.
Initially the event was planned to be held at least 30 days before the Tokyo Olympic Games. This was to serve as an opportunity for some of the qualified athletes, to offer themselves another challenge and prepare well ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, President of Confederation of Africa Athletics in a press release disclosed “the delayed championships will now take place in the megacity of Lagos at the Teslim Balogun Sports Stadium. The National Sports Stadium, Surulere and the Yaba College of Technology Sports Stadium, Yaba will be a support of the championships. All these stadia are sited in Lagos”.

The official date is now scheduled from 23rd – 27th June, 2021.
There are less than 30 days before the start of this mega championship.
