Naomi and Hamza Triumph in Ashanti Inter School XC

T.I. Amass Senior High School Athletes Addo Naomi and Hamza Amidu captured respective victories at the 2022 Ashanti Regional Inter-School Cross Country Championship.

The event was held on Saturday, 11th June at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Naomi’s overnight lead became more significant after her close rival Sherifa Moro was not taken part. But Navanea Achike of Islamic Senior High School and former champion in multiple events Abdulai Ramata gave her a tough race. No wonder the first top 3 athletes all finished in 15min with just some microseconds being the decider. Naomi and Hamza triumph in Ashanti Inter School XC.

“I was prepared for this cross country. My training for this race was massive and I knew I will win.  There was no pressure on me because I have been competing with most of the athletes all the time. The route was also familiar to me”, Naomi disclosed.

Her focus now is on the upcoming Inter-School Track and Field Championships. She will be aiming for medals in 1500m, 5000m, and 10000m both in the interco and superzonal games. The ladies competed in a 4km single loop route.

Hamza started the race with a very hot pace but Mathew Daniel of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School and Emmanuel Tetteh from Kumasi Senior High School followed him. The experience Hamza maintained his pace and slowed down in the second round.

He won the race with a sprint finish in the last 200m to finish. The boys covered a distance of 8km.
