Maaron Initiative Athletes Shine at 25th GUSA Cross Country in Ho
The Maaron initiative athletes have produced tremendous performances at the 25th Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Cross Country Competitions. The three-day event commenced on Thursday, 11, and ended on Sunday, 14th August 2022.
The competition was held at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, Volta Region. This is the first time the GUSA cross country competition has been held in the Volta Region of Ghana.
Maaron initiative athletes took part in the 10km –both females and males- events which they are under High Morale Athletics Academy based in Nandom, Upper West Region.
Some of the athletes were Rosina Titi – who placed second in the overall female category, Elizabeth Azure of Ghana Armed Forces also placed fifth in the female category and the experienced Antaylar Awini Samuel also competed in the male category and managed to finish fourth overall in a very strong field. All three athletes are also students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in the Central Region.
They also helped their team to place first – females – and third – males – respectively and won the overall best team at the 25th GUSA cross country competition.
The Project Manager, Mr. Boinde Boniface – Coach Boniface – of the Maaron initiative was also the head coach of team UCC. He said this after the competition, “These three are among the pioneers of the High Morale Athletics Academy”.
“I will come back stronger again. Praying for my injury to go and come back”, Elizabeth Azure disclosed.
“It wasn’t easy at all. I was aiming for first place but things didn’t go well as planned so I had to stay back and take my time. But am happy we have won the female team and the overall best institution”, Rosina Titi stated.
The launch of the Maaron initiative is slated for Saturday, 20th August 2022 at Nandom, Upper West Region.
