Latifa Ali Wins Gold At Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational

Latifa Ali led the Coppin State women’s track and field team to gold in the 60m dash and bronze in the 200m dash at the Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

The Invitational served as the last warm-up for the MEAC Championships, which take place next week.

Ali ran the fastest 60m dash and 200m dash times in the MEAC, with times of 7.43 in the 60m and 23.88 in the 200m. Ali, a junior from Kumasi, Ghana, ran a 7.53 in the 60 prelims, then a season-best 7.43 in the semis before winning with a 7.45 in the final. Ali’s time of 23.88 was just .14 off the first-place finisher.

The 4x400m Relay team of Salomay AgyeiJahmei WyattClaudina Constantine, and Kamillah Monroque also took first on the day, clocking a 3:49.89. The combo also ran extremely well in their open events, with Constantine and Agyei taking fifth and sixth, respectively in the 800m Run in times of 2:22.60 and 2:22.69.
