Latifa Ali Sets New Personal Best in 400m at NCAA East Preliminaries
Ghana’s phenomenal and sensational sprinter Latifa Ali of Coppin State ran a personal-best of 52.78 in the 400m sprint Quarterfinals at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday night at Indiana University’s Haugh Track & Field Complex, finishing 16th overall. Ali, a sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, had the second-fastest time in school history in the 400m dash, trailing only Diana Pitts’ 18-year-old school-record run of 52.65. Ali came missed out .38 of qualifying for the National Championships.
Ali also competed in the 4x400m Relay, finishing 14th out of 24 schools in 3:38.73. The Eagles’ relay team of Kimani Alphonse, Ali, Shenelle Tomlinson, and Cathryn Lane finished third in 3:38.09, just ahead of Vanderbilt.
