Lariba Sakat Wins Women’s Asante Akyem Marathon 2021
Lariba wins the fourth edition of the women’s Asante Akyem Marathon 2021 in 47:14 seconds. The race was parked and she managed to use her experience to move away from them after the 5 km mark. The initial distance was 12 km but it was later changed to 10.5 km. The women started the race from Juansa – Agogo Market Square in the morning. About 150 athletes registered for the mega event of which 85% were men and 20% were women. Lariba Sakat wins women’s Asante Akyem Marathon 2021.
Lariba was a pre-race favourite winner since she announced her participation. She has never lost any race in 2021 and she is optimistic to finish her season unbeaten. She is the current CAA Region II half marathon and 1500m champion. She won the double in Lagos, Nigeria this year.

She broke away from the leading group just after the 5 km mark and the gap began to increase. She was able to maintain her pace and none of the athletes was close to her. There was 3 minutes interval between her and the first chasing group. She is now at level 200 at the University of Education, Winneba.
Lariba Sakat crossed the finish line in 47:14 seconds in a course record time to win the gold medal. One of the fastest upcoming female sensational youth athletes Belinda Segbor finished second in 50:49 seconds to take home the silver medal. The third position was taken by the unpredictable Abdulai Ramatu in 50.59 seconds and she was awarded the bronze medal.

All the times are official and it’s certified by Ghana Athletics Association (GAA). Some dignitaries present were the Director-General of the National Youth Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi, Former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, President of the Ghana Athletics Association, Ababu Afelibiek, Hon. Kwadwo Baa Agyemang, CEO of National Sports Authority, Hon. Pious Enam Hadzie, CEO of GAA, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ghana Legend, Yussif Chibsah.
