Lariba Sakat The First Female Athlete To Run 10000m in Ghana

Lariba Sakat is a Ghanaian National Track Athlete who had been out of the scene for a while. The last marathon she competed was dated back 2016 and since from there she has never ran any road race again. During the year 2016 she was on her peak and she won herself all the competitions she participated. She won the two major road running events in Ghana then that’s the Millennium Half Marathon and the Milo Marathon in the same year. This record had never happened before in the history of Ghana athletics. The Milo Marathon arguable was a mega event in the whole of West Africa. The Milo Marathon has a history on its own so as the Millennium Half Marathon. Lariba Sakat The First Female Athlete To Run 10000m in Ghana.

Lariba is not a long distance runner but a middle distance athlete on the track. Lariba Sakat has broken numerous track records during her Senior High School days. She is the first Ghanaian female athlete to compete in a 10000 meters race on the track. She holds the women records in the 10000 meters till date.

Lariba is the current champion in National Cross Country Championship which was held about two months ago in the capital. She is also the current champion for 1500 meters in the women category. Lariba won the maiden edition of the Koforidua Marathon 2020. Lariba Sakat has been consistent for the past ten years now and she is still at her peak. Most of the coaches, managers and her compatriots’ athletes call her the ‘queen on the track’.

Lariba Sakat attended her primary education at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, Ghana. She continue to the Bolgatanga Senior High School where she broke most of the inter school games records. Lariba is now in the first year at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). She is one of the best middle distance athletes Ghana had ever gotten. She has represented Ghana at the international competitions in several occasions.
