Lariba and Ishmael To Headline Ghana Armed Forces X-Country
The reigning Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II half marathon champion Lariba Sakat, and Ishmael Arthur the 2018 Millennium Marathon champion will try to make history at the maiden edition of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Cross Country Championship at the Ghana Air Force Golf Park this month. Lariba, the National Cross Country gold medallist, will be seeking to win her second cross country crown, while Ishmael, the Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon silver medallist, is out to regain his glory in the cross country event in Ghana after a dramatic third place in the 2021 National Cross Championship.

Lariba is the only female athlete in Ghana who has gone unbeaten in the past 2 years both on the track and road. She has won all her races since 2020 to date ,although the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has been a detrimental to most of our sports.
About 90% of the competitions were being postponed and later cancelled around the globe of which Ghana was a victim.
Lariba who was preparing for the 2021 Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon last year and she was optimistic of setting a new course record but unfortunately the race was cancelled.
Ishmael who is now a military personal in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is also among the leading distance runners in West Africa. He placed third at Asante Akyem (Asante Akyem Marathon Challenge 2021) in October and just within few days he competed at the GAF Open Championships in 5000m. He returned to the marathon scene and placed third at Koforidua (Koforidua Marathon 2021) in December.

The maiden edition of the GAF cross country championship will take place on Saturday, 29th January 2022 in Accra.
