Koogo Atia has called on the government to support Ghana Athletes to be able perform better. Atia is amongst the phenomenal and promising athletes in the country currently. He is specialising in the middle and long distance events.

He is very good both on the track and on the roads. His 2021 season was amazing and he has started his 2022 season on a high note after winning the maiden GAF Cross Country Championship on Saturday, 29th January at the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club in Accra.

In 2021, he won the Adenta Marathon 2021 (15km), Koforidua Marathon 2021, place 2nd Good Day Energy Drink Cross Country Championship and in addition  won the maiden edition of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Cross Country Championship 2022. He is also a student of the University of Education, Winneba.

According to him, he is keen on making the Ghana team ahead of the upcoming African Games in Mauritius 2022 and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022 but needs support to able to train very well.

“Ghana Athletes need support to be able to train very well. Sometimes you have to stop training and go and work to get money and buy your running shoes, vest, food and other stuffs. Which makes training very difficult and ineffective. I hope to qualify for the upcoming international Championships and if that will be possible then the government or individual must support me to be able to achieve this goal. I know most of the athletes also need help so the government should support the Ghana Athletics to help us also to train very well”, he said.

The athletes calling for support has been intense and it seems most of the athletes are worried and believe that is time the government should also look at the other sports in the country.
