“Kenenisa Bekele is my mentor since I started running” – William Amponsah

Ghana’s National Half Marathon and 5000m record holder, William Amponsah has disclosed that one of the greatest middle and long-distance athletes Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia is his role model ever since he started running.

It was all joy when Amponsah was running side by side with his mentor. The race was very competitive as the pack was with world record holder in the half marathon, Jacob Kiplimo, Olympic Champion in 10,000m Selemon Barega, the great Kenenisa Bekele the 2nd fastest man on the planet earth in the 42.2km amongst other top athletes.

Amponsah wrote on his official Facebook page ‘’Good experience today, the Holy Spirit is the master strategist, Mr. Bekele has been my mentor since I started running. I got to meet him today. I learnt one thing from all the elite athletes, it’s called humility. Thank you, everyone, Jesus Christ is Lord”.

The 41st Great North Run took place on Sunday, 11th September 2022 in Newcastle, United Kingdom. 2023 Registration is ongoing and the date is also fixed for Sunday 10th September.
