Joseph, Malik, Manu and Abayie Shine At NCAA East Track and Field Prelims

Yesterday was the opening of the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries Championship. The championship was held at Hodges Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.
A lot of Ghanaian athletes are making the waves in this year’s NCAA Track and Field championships.

On the limelight was Joseph Paul Amoah, the current 200m National Record Holder represented his university for the championship in both 100m and 200m respectively.
Joseph Paul Amoah won both heats in the 100m and 200m easily with just an hour interval of resting.
He clocked 10.11 in the 100m and also won the 200m with a season best time in 20.36.
Joseph Paul Amoah has qualify for Friday’s Quarterfinals.

Joseph Paul Amoah arguably the best athlete in the NCAA East Track and Field preliminaries will be the fourth seed in both events of the Quarterfinals with the 100m dash set for 7:05 pm, followed by the 200m dash at 8:10 pm. The top 12 finishers in both events will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The NCAA National Championships is scheduled for next month, June 9th -12th.

On the other hand is the Ghanaian sensational trio Malik John, Joseph Manu and Abayie Opuni also competed for Coppin State University. 

Malik John placed sixth in his heat of the 200m in 21.34. He took the 40th overall in the NCAA East Track and Field preliminaries.

Joseph Manu who was part of the Ghana Relay Team who competed at the World Athletics Relays Championships in Poland also took seventh in his 100m dash heat in 10.44. He placed 38th position overall. The Ghana Relay Team have qualified for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games in the men’s 4x100m.

Abayie Opuni had to settle at 42nd position overall in the 400m after clocking a time of 47.83. Abayie was very disappointed after the race and vowed to come back strong again.

The formidable quartet of athletes will also take part in Coppin’s 4x100m and 4×400 Relays on Friday.  All four will compete in the 4x100m Relay at 5:30 pm with the 4x400m Relay to close the night at 9:15 pm with Amadou Ba and Randy Serville.
