Ghana’s record holder in the 200m Olympian Joseph Paul Amoah is among the leading and currently the best sprinters in the world. The Ghanaian sprinter is a student at Coppin State University and he is based in Baltimore, United States.

Joseph made a historic appearance and became the first Ghanaian athlete to qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the 200m dash. He was part of the Ghana 4 × 100m Relay Team that made history at the World Relays Championships in Silesia, Poland. The quartet was made of Olympian SEAN SARFO ANSAH who run the first leg and handed it over to Olympian BENJAMIN AZAMATI (Ghana’s 100m record holder) and the baton was given to the sensational Olympian Joseph Oduro Manu (Coppin State University) in the third leg while Joseph Paul Amoah runs the last leg in the heat. They got automatic qualification during the heats and made it through to the final. The Ghana 4 × 100m Relay Team run a lifetime best and they finished in a historic 3rd place but they were later disqualified due to baton change technicality during the last leg. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ashanti Region has closed down for maximum renovation about 2 years ago. The stadium is near completion and there are a lot of pictures moving around.

The picture that got most of the athletes happy is the athletics oval. According to the National Sports Authority, the Tartan is the approved standard of the World Athletics formerly the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The Ghanaian Record holder couldn’t hide his joy after seeing the newly constructed tartan track. Joseph Paul has been competing at the Baba Yara Sports during Ashanti Regional Inter-Collegiate Games for years now.  Read what Joseph Paul Amoah wrote after seeing the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Tartan track for the first time.

He wrote this on his Twitter page “Love this! Can’t wait to compete in front of home fans.. see you soon.

Ghanaians wanna see Joseph Paul Amoah vs Benjamin Azamati vs Sean Sarfo-Antwi. We would that to you next year, Athletics Ghana wossuh?” He said.

It’s very clear that he is very happy and excited to see the developmental sports projects in Ghana currently especially Athletics. Athletics Ghana has signed a mega partnership with Django Brothers and they are expected to organise a National Championships each year.

Next year we will see our Olympians, record holders, and our heroes competing here in Ghana once again.
