How to register for the Asante Akyem Marathon
The Asante Akyem Marathon is an annual event being organised by the people of Asante Akyem Municipality. The championship has been attended by a lot of athletes. Although in 2020 the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The maiden edition was held in 2017 and it was an 11 km route. The championship was won by the Ghana Half Marathon Record Holder, William Amponsah. The event attracted about 500+ athletes all over the country. Since there, William Amponsah has won multiple races both on the roads and tracks.
The second edition was also organised in 2018 but this time was a full marathon event that’s 42.2km route. The competition was won by John Kudanu. John is popularly known on the track as one of the best in 1500m and 5000m in West Africa.

The third edition of the Asante Akyem Marathon was the most packed raced in the history of the event. The competition was won by the genius in the long-distance running in Ghana, Ishmael Arthur. Arthur has the accolades of the guy who through him Agona Swedru was discovered as a breeding place for long-distance athletes in Ghana. Ismael Arthur is now an Officer and serving in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). Arguably he is one of the best long-distance athletes Ghana is having currently.
In the female category has been one lady championing the whole three editions respectively. Elizabeth Azure has won all three editions conservatively. Elizabeth is one of the less celebrated long-distance athletes in Ghana. Elizabeth Azure completed the University Of Development Studies (UDS) and now she is serving in the Ghana Armed Forces as an Officer.

The fourth edition of the Asante Akyem Marathon is slated for Saturday, 25th September 2021. This time the event is a 24km route which will start from Principal Streets of Konongo to Agogo Township.
