The National Sports Authority (NSA) and The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) on Wednesday 7th April 2021, signed an agreement that seeks to extend the Government’s support for elite athletes from various sporting associations in Ghana. The agreement was signed this morning by heads of the two agencies, Lawyer Justin Kodua, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director-General of the NSA.
By this agreement, 1000 elite athletes from various sports associations and federations will continue to receive GHS 500.00/month each for the next six months.
This initiative was started about two years ago by the government to support elite athletes. The financial aspect of our elite athletes in this country is not encouraging and even the amateur
are suffering more of such. We praying for the government to extend it to more than 1000 athletes in the coming years.
This is in fulfilment of President Akufo-Addo’s government to intensify sports development in the country through sports infrastructure development as well as athletes and their technical handlers. Government To Support 1000 Elite Athletes Across All Sports Disciplines.
Present to grace the occasion was Minister of Youth and Sports (MYS), Honourable Mustapha Ussif, and representatives of Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ghana Football Association (GFA), and National Paralympic Committee (NPC).
