Ghanaian Long Jumper and Coppin State’s student-athlete Jeff Hammond has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon 26th January 2022.

This is the first weekly award that Hammond has received in his career.

Hammond, a junior from Kumasi, Ghana, won gold in the long jump at the Carolina Challenge with a MEAC-best distance of 7.65 meters (25 feet, 1.25 inches).

Hammond’s mark, which ranks 14th in the US, shattered Brandon Miles’ 12-year-old school record by nearly 10 inches.

Hammond also placed fourth overall in the 60m dash, clocking a timing of 6.97 seconds.

The Eagles will compete in the East Coast Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Saturday, February 5.
