The drawings were held on Saturday, January 22 in Douala, Cameroon, and Ghana was drawn to play arch-rivals Nigeria for a place in the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.
Ghana will be in the quest to fight their fourth FIFA World Cup appearance when they face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in March. The first appearance was in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014. The Black Stars of Ghana failed to qualify for Russia 2018.
The Super Eagles will also be attempting to qualify for their sixth World Cup appearance, having previously represented Africa in the event in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, and 2014, with only 2006 being the last time Nigeria failed to qualify.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set the dates for the playoffs in March, with Ghana hosting the first game in March and Nigeria hosting the second leg on March 29.
