“The initial date was set to take place in the second week in January 2022, Saturday 8. But the date has been changed and all coaches and athletes must take note of it”, a statement from the race organisers.

According to the organisers, the route has been inspected by the technical team of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA). The expect team gave some recommendations and the organisers are keen to work on them gradually for a successful event.

“We were overwhelmed during our first open championships at the Elwak Sports Stadium in late October. We also encountered a series of problems and we have learned a lot and from that. But the whole event was very successful. So we have started preparations early for the maiden edition of our cross country”, said Coach W01 Moro Salifu, the Head Coach of the Ghana Armed Forces Athletics Team.

The Ghana Armed Forces Athletics has the largest number of athletes in the country. The cross country is also an open championship and everyone can register and take part, whether you are an athlete or not. The event will take place at the Air Force Golf Park around 37 Military Base in Accra.

“We have started serious preparations towards the cross country championship. There will be a lot of obstacles, climbs, and muddy surfaces on the route. We are making it the same as the international standard and we hope every athlete will prepare well for it,” added Coach Moro.

He also disclosed that they will invite all the other security services, junior/senior high schools, tertiary institutions, any government institutions, all private companies, and individuals who wish to be part of the championship will be welcomed.

The GAF xc is endorsed by the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA).

All Covid-19 protocols will be observed before, during, and after the event.
