GAF Athletics Team Makes History at PAAG Invitational Championships

GAF Athletics Team Makes History at PAAG Invitational Championships – Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Athletics Team has made world history in athletics on Saturday, 25th June at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The GAF Athletics team won unprecedented 30 medals at the maiden edition of the Past Athletes Association of Ghana (PAAG) Invitational Championships.

They are the only athletics team in the world that has won 30 medals in a single championship. This has never happened before in the history of athletics. We are not talking about the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, African Senior Championships Commonwealth Games, or Diamond League (individual meet) amongst others. This was an invitational championship and its mostly competed by individuals in the name of their running clubs. read more

Olympic Games is competed by countries and medals are tabulated according to nations but not individuals or clubs or teams.

World Athletics Championships also follow the same pattern individuals win medals but it’s counted as a country laurel.

African Senior Championships in Athletics is a continental athletics event which is organised by the Confederation of African Athletics. It began in 1979. The last edition was held on 8-12 June in Cote d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius in 2022. read more

GAF during the two-day event won 10 Gold medals, 13 Silver medals, and 7 Bronze medals. Their athletes participated in all the events at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
