Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Athletics Team have called on the 2023 African Games Local Organising Committee (LOC) to critically look into the criteria that the National Sports Authority (NSA) uses to select athletes to take part in the National Cross Country Championship.
The Ghana Armed Forces in recent times have been recruiting a lot of athletes into the Army purposely to groom them for local, national, and international events.
According to reports, the NSA has denied them from taking part in the upcoming National Cross Country Championship. The event is the fourth edition and comes on Saturday, 26th February 2022 at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2023 Africa Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, in his speech said at the press launch of the fourth edition said, the cross country offers an opportunity for the committee to unearth talents in their preparations towards the 2023 African Games.
“The GAF has the best athletes in the country currently and you are organising a national championship and you are denying our athletes to take part. How can we select the best athletes to represent the nation in the upcoming international games and the big one 2023 African Games?”, coach Moro asked.
