GAF 2021: I Expect My Athletes To Improve On Their Times – Coach William Akuka

The University of Ghana cross country team’s coach, Akuka has expressed his satisfaction and confirms his athlete’s participation in the upcoming Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Championship.

Coach Akuka was a Ghanaian National athlete and has represented Ghana in a lot of competitions. He has broken a lot of records during his high school days. He attended his senior high school at Prempeh College in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. He was never beaten on the track during the Inter-Collegiate Games. He broke and set multiple records each year and wins the overall best athlete of the event. From Prempeh College then he proceeded to the University of Ghana to further his education. Due to his athletic background, he was cherished by everyone. He continued his running career at the tertiary level. He won the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games on several occasions. In 2013, he was selected to represent Ghana and Africa in Universidad in Russia. The Universidad is the World University Games and it’s being represented by each champion from various countries. He is the first athlete to break the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m at Inter-Collegiate Games in Ashanti Region.

He is the first Ghanaian athlete to run 5000m in under 15 minutes.

He is the first Ghanaian athlete to run the Half Marathon under 1:07 minutes in Ghana.

He is the youngest athlete to win Milo Marathon in Ghana.

“Well… the last time they had a competition was somewhere June or July and that was in Kumasi. As a coach am not expecting just my athletes in winning but also improving on their times” said Coach Akuka.

The University of Ghana has already confirmed their participation in the 4 × 100m and 4 × 400m relay team and in addition in 800m, 1500m, and 5000m. There will be 3 athletes in all to represent their cross country team coming this Friday at Elwak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Aziz Mohammed to compete in both 1500m and 5000m.

Ishmael Offeh will run 800m and 1500m respectively.
