Bukom is a very small town in Accra but it has managed to produce the best boxers in the country. A lot of the Ghana’s famous and professional boxers are all unearthed, groomed and trained in Bukom – Azuma Nelson, D.K. Posion, Braimah Isaac Kamoko (Bukom Banku) and the current Olympic Bronze medallist Samuel Takyi. Takyi was the only Ghanaian athletes amongst the Ghana Team at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games that won the only laurel in his event.

Takyi was celebrated when he got back home and it was worth it, because after 29 years Ghana had never won any medal at the senior Olympic Games in any event. He was welcomed home as hero at the Kotoka International Airport with all the contingents.
