The maiden edition of the Ghana Armed Forces Cross Country Championship was held on Saturday, 29th January 2022 at the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club in the Greater Accra Region.

The event was also the first athletics championship in Ghana and West Africa. The cross country was organised by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Athletes from all over the country came and participated which also included an international athlete.

According to the Director for Physical Training and Sports of the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Richard Akoto, GAF has a lot of plans to revive most of the lesser and dead sporting activities in Ghana and athletics is among the exploits to benefit.

“This is work in progress, also being the first and maiden edition it has been an excellent performance. We will need to step it up and make it more organised in the next edition of the race, but I’m impressed”, disclosed Colonel Richard Akoto

“The Ghana Armed Forces Cross Country Championship is here to stay”, a statement from the head coach of Ghana Armed Forces WO1 Moro Salifu said.

“Plans are underway for the GAF Open Track and Field Championships which will be in March” he added.
