Geleta Ulfata of Ethiopia has won the 7th edition of the 2022 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Ethiopian, Geleta Deresa Ulfata has won the 2022 Lagos City Marathon.

Geleta finished the race in 2 hours 11 minutes and 54 seconds.

Ulfata won the 42km event on Saturday morning, defeating nearly 300 marathon runners. He will be claiming the $30,000 grand prize.

He also beat over Kenyans David Barmasai and Emmanuel Naibei, who finished second and third, respectively, and will take home $20,000 and $15,000 each.

Dagne Siranesh Yirga of Ethiopia was the first woman to cross the finish line, clocking in at 2 hours 33 minutes 50 seconds. Alemenseh Guta, a compatriot, came in second and Naomi Maiyo, a Kenyan, came in third.

The 42-kilometer race began at Surulere’s National Stadium and ended at Victoria Island’s Eko Atlantic City.

Naibei and Barmasai won the 5th and 6th editions of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon respectively.
