Deborah Acquah Wins Bronze and Sets New National Record at Commonwealth Games – Ghana’s record holder in the women’s long jump, Deborah Acquah has secured a bronze medal in the women’s long jump event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The 26-year old finished in third place behind Nigeria’s Ese Brume and Australia’s Brooke Buschkuel.
She jumped a personal best of 6.94m on her first attempt to win bronze, Brume jumped a games record of 7.00m to win Gold and Buschkuel recorded a 6.95m jump to win silver.
Acquah only arrived in Birmingham 48 hours before her scheduled event on Friday, August 5, 2022 and recorded a jump of 6.85 to book her spot in the final.
She becomes the first Ghanaian woman in history to win a Long Jump medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Deborah Acquah becomes Ghana’s fifth medalist at the Birmingham games and Ghana’s 2nd medalist in the track and field events after Joseph Paul Amoah won bronze in the men’s 200m final on Saturday.
