The state filed charges against the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Member of Parliament and two other people in December 2021, through the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa. Breaking News: Ato Forson granted GHS3M bail after pleading not guilty in court today.

The three have been charged with a total of five counts namely ‘wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic contrary to section 179A (3) (a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29, Abetment of crime namely, ‘Wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic contrary to section 20(1) and 179 A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29),’ ‘Contravention of the Public Procumbent Act, 2003, contrary to section 92 (2) (b) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663),’ and ‘Intentionally misapplying public property contrary to section 1 (2) of the Public Property Protection Act, 1977 (SMCD 140)’.

Dr. Forson pleaded not guilty in court today to allegations of causing financial loss to the state as well as the charge of knowingly misapplying public property.

His lawyers applied for bail, which was granted without opposition from Attorney General (AG) Godfred Yeboah Dame and his two deputies, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah and Diana Asonaba Dapaah, who were in court with him.

After hearing the parties, the court presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe granted the accused persons bail.

Dr. Casiel Ato Forson (A1), was admitted to a GHS3 million self-recognisance bail, while the second accused person was admitted to bail in the sum of GHS1m with three sureties and with one being a public servant not below the rank of a director.

Meanwhile, the third defendant was granted bail in the amount of GHS5 million with three sureties. The court stated that one of the sureties should be supported by land title documents.
