Black Stars’ Friendly Match Called Off
The first pre-African Cup of Nations friendly match for the Black Stars has been postponed. The Ghana Football Association’s [GFA] Director of Communications, Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that a friendly match between Ghana’s Black Stars and a Qatari club side has been canceled.
According to him, the game slated for Tuesday, December 28, 2021, has been canceled owing to unforeseen circumstances.
“Per the current situation, it is unlikely the friendly the game will come on tomorrow (i.e. today),” Henry Asante Twum remarked in an interview with Asempa FM.
The match would have been the first of four for the Black Stars as part of their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in 2021.
On Monday, December 27, 2021, the Black Stars held their first training session in Doha, Qatar, with nine players in attendance.
For the competition, which will be placed in Cameroon from January 9 to February 7, 2022, the squad will be camping in Qatar.
Morocco, Gabon, and the Comoros Islands have been placed in Group C with the Black Stars.
Meanwhile, Ghana has been dealt a major blow after AS Roma midfielder Felix Afena-Gyan allegedly turned down a call-up for the competition.
According to numerous football news agencies, the 18-year-old has informed the GFA of his inability to participate in the tournament through his agent.
