Athletics Ranks Amongst Top 5 Federations In Ghana
Ghana Athletics has been ranked amongst the top five best excelling sports federations in the country at the 46th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards night.
Ghana Athletics has had a tremendous season in and out of the country. The growth of athletics in the country has significantly increased and the passion is now overwhelming.
Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) is the head body of all the athletics programs in the country. They are responsible for all the events about running, throwing, jumping, and walking.
International Achievements
- Participated at the World Athletics Relays in Silesia, Poland
- Participated at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
- Broke three (3) National Records
- 100 metres record was broken
- 200 metres was broken
- The long jump record was broken
- 46th SWAG Awards Full Winners ā Benjamin Azamati and Deborah Acquah named athletes of the year.
- The 2022 World Athletics Label Road Race Calendar has been published
Local Achievements
- Organised first National Cross Country Championship
- Local Half Marathon was broken
- First-ever Half Marathon times were electronically recorded
- New rules for all races to be certified
- A lot of races were organised
- World Athletics Level I Coaching Course
Although the coronavirus pandemic has caused great damage to the sports the GAA managed to organised lot championships which include track meets, road races, and cross countries across the country.
All the events were successful and the turn-out was massively great across all the disciplines.
Other sports that were also recognised were Amateur boxing, Rugby, Tennis, and Table Tennis.
The 46th SWAG awards were held at the Accra International Conference Center in Accra on Friday, 17 December 2021.
