African Games 2023: The LOC Will Introduce A Fund For Ghanaians To Donate To The Hosting Of The Games

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 13th African Games has announced the creation of a games fund to encourage citizens to contribute to the games’ funding. African Games 2023: The LOC will introduce a fund for Ghanaians to donate to the hosting of the games.

The LOC Chairman Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare announced this initiative at the official launch of the game’s logo, mascot, and website respectively in Accra yesterday.

The games will be held across three major regions in Ghana, Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. But the main centre of attraction and the host city is Accra and the selected stadium is the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Major renovations are currently ongoing at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and new facilities are being built at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

The Borteyamn Sports Complex was initially designed to construct a 50,000 seater capacity Olympic Standard Sports Stadium to host the 13th African Games in 2023. The 50,000 seater capacity Olympic Standard Sports will be later converted into a sports university to train promising athletes for the nation.

The 54 African countries will send nearly 7,000 athletes and athletes to compete in 26 sporting disciplines across the three selected regions in Ghana.

According to Ofosu Asare, the capital-intensive nature of the games necessitates citizens contributing their fair share to the games’ hosting.

“It is critical for us to own the games, and we have launched an initiative to assist citizens in contributing to the successful hosting of the games.”

“With 30 million Ghanaians, even if each person contributes one Ghana Cedi, we’re talking about 30 million Cedis,” he explained.
