Accra Inter City Marathon Women’s Preview

On Saturday, July 30 in Accra, the women’s preview of the first Accra Inter City Marathon, commonly known as the Homowo Marathon, is scheduled to take place.

According to the weather forecast, Accra will have a 23° atmosphere which is the optimal temperature for a semi-marathon and the event will commence at exactly 6:00 am.

Lariba Sakat Juliana, a Ghanaian National Athlete is projected as the pre-race favourite in the Accra Iter City Marathon. She has never lost any race on the road for almost a decade both local and international. She is the current champion in 1500m and in half marathon of the CAA Region II Championships that was held in Nigeria. She is very experienced and had lost multiply awards both on the tracks and on the roads. But she will face a very tough challenge from some of the female international athletes in tomorrow’s event. She said, “training is going on well and ever ready to win the race”.

Kenya’s Chebet Zeddy, who is a 24-year-old female runner, recently took part in the Maratón de Zaragoza in Spain, where she placed second in the race. She has a perosnal best in the full marathon (42.2km) of 2:33 minutes. She said, “I am using the Accra Inter City Marathon to gauge my training and prepare for my next race”.

Also participating is Hawawu Nana Haruna, 20, from Nigeria with a personal best of 1:19:37. She would compete in the women’s category having participated Lagos City Marathon and Ijebu Ode Heritage Half Marathon. She placed 8th in the 2021 Lagos City Marathon and came out as the first Nigerian athlete to cross the finish line. She has a personal best of 1:19:37 seconds in the half marathon. She said, “I want to feel the joy and run for the joy of the race”.

Other athletes tipped to finish in the top 10 are Sherifa Moro, Abdulai Ramata Addo Naomi, Belinda Segbor, Elizabeth Azure, Adompaka Hannah, Salamatu Aziah amongst others.
