Accra Inter City Marathon Men’s Preview
The men’s preview of the inaugural 2022 Accra Inter City Marathon which is also known as the Homowo Marathon is slated to take place on Saturday, 30th July in Accra.
The event will start at exactly 6:00 am and according to the weather forecast, we will have a 23° atmosphere in Accra which is an ideal weather condition for a semi-marathon.
Koogo Atia one of the best distance runners in Ghana will be aiming for his first major trophy in the half marathon in 2022. He won the 2021 Koforidua Marathon in a course record time of 2:35.34. He also placed second at the maiden edition of the 2022 Ghana Armed Forces Cross Country Championship in Accra. He said, “Training is going on well by the grace of Almighty God. I know it shall be competitive for everyone but Almighty God shall make it easy for us all. I’m ready to emerge as the winner by the grace of Almighty God. I wish everyone good luck in advance”.
Ishmael Arthur, a Ghanaian National Athlete was ranked in 2018 as the best distance runner in Ghana. He is now serving in the Ghana Armed Forces and has chalked a lot of success in the road races. He won the 2018 Millennium Marathon, and Asante Akyem Marathon Challenge twice. He finished third in the 2021 Koforidua Marathon behind Koogo Atia and Ishmael Fialor. “Is not about Kenya’s! It’s about Christ who is in you. You call yourself a coach and you don’t believe in your own athletes. If they are Kenyas, we are Ghanaians! So we are waiting for them. Proud GH…. Black man with the black sense”, he wrote on his Facebook page.
Other international athletes include Barnabas Kiplimo of Kenya, a 2:17:30 marathon runner. He last competed in China where he run a new personal best in the 42.2km.
Benard Kipkemoi Bosuben also has a personal best (PB) of 1:17:54 seconds in the marathon. He set his new PB at the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon in Kenya.
Other athletes include debutante Martin Lim0 from Kenya. He has a personal best of 30:01 seconds in the 10km. His last race was the Nairobi City Marathon -10km- and he placed 34th overall. He said, ” I am expecting to run the best time tomorrow because the weather condition is very good in Ghana”.
Shehu Muazu Adamu of Nigeria will also be hoping to win his first major international event. In 2021, he competed in the Ijebu Heritage Half Marathon, Ijebu Ode, and placed 12th overall and was the first Nigeria athlete to cross the finish line. he said, “I want to test my limit and the feel in the half marathon outside my country”. He has a personal best time of 1:08:22 seconds in the half marathon.
Other athletes include Dennis Tumiti, Cheruiyot Joseah a 2:23 marathon runner, Charles Kipchumba Rono all from Kenya, David Nakousi, Ishmael Fialor, Tony Asigbey, Aziz Mohammed, and Samuel Awine amongst others.
