8 Months And Still Counting NSA Hasn’t Paid The Winners Of The Sefwi Wiaso Cross-Country Championship

The National Sports Authority (NSA) lead by the Director-General, Prof. Peter Twumasi organised its annual National Cross-Country Championship in 2021. The event was initially to be attended by all the 16 regions with each region bringing 6 females and males athletes each. 8 months and still counting NSA hasn’t paid the winners of the Sefwi Wiaso Cross-Country Championship.

The 2021 National Cross Country Championship was held on 20 February, at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region. The event was very successful and was participated by about 192 athletes across the country. The winners were promised a handsome prize for all the athletes and the respective regions that emerged as overall winners. We are in the 8th month now and still counting but the National Sports Authority hasn’t paid any of the athletes.

But, the NSA has already launched the 2022 National Cross Country as well, which will be held at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region. Meanwhile, the NSA hasn’t paid the last edition of the winner’s bonus to them.

Almost getting to the 9th month and still, none of the athletes has received a penny. Most of the coaches and athletes are very angry and disappointed in the National Sports Authority, especially the Director-General, Prof. Peter Twumasi.

This situation confirms the statement that most of the Ghanaians do say “the Ghana government does no value athletics”.
